Brazil: Blisters, Coffee and Singing

By: Mathias Bolt Lesniak

For four weeks in March and April, the YIP participants are on internships abroad. The Brazil gang are posting news to the Aramitán blog.

The blog (posted in English, Portuguese and German) gives impressions from the work camps at Aramitán in 2009.

Aramitán is a project helping children and young people in high-risk situations in the area of São Paulo, Brazil. The Aramitán house will not only be a place where these children and young people can live, but also a socio-cultural center for other children of the area, where professional, artistic and crafts workshops can be offered. There will also be a Cultural and a Health Center.

In an e-mail to the YIP headquarters in Järna, YIP participant Christina Gerodetti (Switzerland) tells us: "We started working last Wednesday and it's been a great time so far: lots of blisters, coffee, singing, mosquitoes and a good mood."

The work camp participants help with building and landscaping. Work camps are in cooperation with YIP, IDEM and Aramitán.
