Fika – A Fairtrade Challenge

By: Mathias Bolt Lesniak

YIP organized a Nordic Fairtrade Challenge 'fika' together with almost 300,000 people around Scandinavia.

YIP House Mother Pernilla baked excellent Fairtrade cookies for the event.

The event took place as a part of Helene Bank's Public Lecture, Tuesday 20 October 2009, and only Fairtrade cakes and coffee was served.

The Nordic Fairtrade Challenge was arranged by Rättvisemärkt, the organization behind the Max Havelaar Fairtrade brand in Sweden. The challenge was a competition between citizens of Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden, to arrange as many coffee brakes (fika in Swedish) as possible with as many participants as possible.

Sweden won the challenge with 133,017 participants in 1948 fika breaks.
