YIP open for applications. Visitor weekends in March and April.
Järna, Sweden, February 2009
The participants at the International Youth Initiative Program (YIP) are already changing the world through their projects. The application for the 2009-2010 year is now open, and those considering applying are welcome to the visitor weekends in March and April.
Know Yourself and the World
YIP is a new social entrepreneur training in Järna, Sweden: a Folk High School year for youth aged 18 to 25 who want to create positive change in the world, and a course in how to bring your own initiative into being.
Throughout the year the participants work on individual and group projects, taking on both theoretical topics and training skills needed for any project. YIP includes both ongoing practical work locally in Järna and abroad through a four week project internship.
International Experts
The first YIP year started 25 August 2008, and has 40 participants from 18 countries around the world. They work with international experts, doers and innovators who give an overview of current global issues and teach skills, combining their experience and knowledge with hands-on projects.
The topics include environment, fundraising, communication, facilitation, medicine and health care, theater, storytelling, mentoring and global activism. Among the course leaders are internationally acclaimed change makers, such as Nicanor Perlas, Arthur Zajonc, Eric Utne and many more.
Calling for Next Year's Change Makers
The next YIP year starts 24 August 2009 and ends 25 June 2010. The application closes 30 June 2009. In this connection, two visitor weekends have been set up. The dates are 13–15 March and 24–26 April 2009. The weekends give an insight into the life at YIP, and the possibility to talk with YIP participants and organizers face to face.
"YIP is the ultimate opportunity."
- Lauryn Morley (20, Canada, YIP 2008–2009)
