Weekly themes
Each week brings a new morning theme. Change-makers from globally active initiatives, businesses and organizations give an understanding of the big picture: the world situation, global society and the challenges we are facing today. Artists will bring creative ways to work with world issues and practical artistic skills to assist project development.
Your work with these experienced course leaders will help you develop a firm basis for a holistic and global understanding of society.
The Year Schedule lists week themes, course leaders and activities.
Morning
The morning sessions give you a greater understanding of world issues and important skills needed in any project. You will have the opportunity to work closely with the course leaders to build up your own understanding and experience of their area of expertise.
The mornings will not only be in lecture form, but will also have lively discussions and practical exercises to deepen your familiarity with the themes.
Theoretical and Artistic Work
The themes span from theoretical to artistic work. By developing your creative side, the artistic workshops allow for self-development and digestion of the theoretical subjects. Your artistic skills will also benefit your projects.
Utilizing the international network's expertise, the majority of the course leaders are from outside of Sweden.
Afternoon
The afternoons are spent working on projects, community engagements and daily tasks. A few of the morning topics also go on into the afternoon.
Community engagements
These local engagements let you take part in the numerous social, ecological, educational, cultural and alternative institutions and initiatives in and around Järna. By working in an existing projects, you experience how these initiatives and organizations are run from day to day.
There are six-week blocks of community engagements both at the beginning and at the end of the YIP year.
Because this will require some Swedish language, there will be a beginner's course in Swedish throughout the year.
Project Weeks
There will be a few Project Weeks throughout the year. During these weeks you should work on your individual project.
As the name suggests, Project Weeks are intended to give time and space to work with what ever project, topic or initiative you want to spend more time on. In some initiative weeks there will be courses or projects organized, or the opportunity to work with experienced youth from our network who will give workshops on valuable topics for any initiative.
