Internships

How do you bring your own initiative into being? A good start is experiencing how others do it, applying what you have learned. During the year at YIP participants will spend one month abroad, taking part in the work of an existing socially and environmentally sustainable project or organization.

A broad choice

You are free to choose the country and initiative/organization in which you would like to spend your internship. You can do this either by researching the possibilities you are interested in or choosing from our network of initiatives and organizations that have already offered intern places for YIP participants.

Internships could be building houses or schools in Tanzania or São Paulo, working in a homeless shelter in Dublin or New York, working with agricultural activists in India or the Philippines, helping in orphanages in Peru, working in the offices of Social Enterprises, NGO’s or Foundations and much more…

Where do your interests lie?

Guatemala, 2010

In the YIP application, you will be asked to give us a guide-line of where your interests lie in terms of practical internships. The guide-lines are:

  • Environment
  • Health
  • Education
  • Community Development
  • Agriculture
  • Social Work
  • Arts
  • Construction

There is also a space where you can specify other interests.

This will give us an overview to help connect you with a placement which will be the most fruitful for your experience during your internship.

You will spend a week working to prepare for your experience during the internship. Once you return, there will be time and space to reflect on the experiences made.
